On August 23rd, 2011 a 5.9 magnitude earthquake was reported SSW of Washington, DC.

Tremors could be felt up and down the East coast.

Our local news was all abuzz as we could feel the tremors!

I've experienced a few earthquakes before, but never one here in the

Raleigh/ Cary/ Apex area.

I was having trouble coming up with a blog idea for today.

But, after yesterday's tremors, it was a no-brainer...

Craig I was laughing so hard I would say it was a 2.8 from the post you wrote and another 2.8 for the comments so it was close to a 5.6.....see we do not have a monopoly on earthquakes anymore. Pretty soon you will be earthquake proofing your homes too.:)))

Linda - At least if you're on the floor that's one of the safest places to be (other than in an airplane) during an earthquake!

Nick - I really looked around all the news sites and listened to the news lots. I came across nothing or saw nothing that indicated anyone had any damage. It really was just a neat and unusual event.

Wanda - You know my our good friend Amy on the Coast is already making evacuation plans. I too am hoping Irene comes and goes without much fanfare.

Today as I was walking one of my neighbors asked "did you feel the earthquake last night" - "No" what time she said it was around 11:30 - it must not have been too powerful as I slept thru it. It used to be that California had the market on earthquakes but from what I am hearing other parts of the country are getting "shook up" too.
