Rebekah - All of the home stagers who replied here seem to be on the same page. No wallpaper when selling despite some of the beautiful patterns available today.

Michael - My thoughts exactly! Line your trash pails with it. But take it off the walls!

Laura - "Loquacious". That's just way to big a word this early in the morning! But I do like your input here Laura. You home stagers know the deal.

Donna - Wallpaper your hubby's mouth shut the next time he brings up the subject!!!

Richard - Ohhhh. I forgot about paneling! That REALLY dates a home!

Tatyana - We can be sick together Tatyana! I'm not fan of wallpaper either. Irene was more bark than bite here in the Raleigh/ Cary/ Apex area. Lots of rain and some nice gusts of wind. But all is well in CarigVille. Hope you fared well too.

Kathy -Don't worry Kathy. I'll find that 22% (currently) who don't like my polls and deal with them accordingly! I do like your 10 year rule though.

Louise - Come on Louise. You can think of something! Setting these up is really easy. And it's FREE!

Greg - Tear down the wall(paper) Greg! It's time has come... and gone!

Dawn - I couldn't agree more. What were some of those folks thinking? What were these folks thinking?

Jane - Thank you Jane! I knew you wouldn't rock the boat on this one!

Doug - Did you pull the tri-fecta and have avocado colored appliances too Doug?!!!

Hi Craig - Ditto to Laura's comments.  Wallpaper is so 1970's.

Craig, I don't know what's wrong with me...I do feel a little off.  Earlier today I got out of my car at a stop sign to help a little old lady cross a busy intersection and when we reached the opposite side of the street, I asked for my usual dollar fee for that service and she wouldn't pay me...worst of all I didn't argue with her or go through her purse.....definitely something wrong.

Craig, I have seen too much ugly wall paper. There are some beautiful ones, though. I like a good quality grass paper.

Oh, I must tell you, I am extremely impressed with your dancing skills. Richard Yates has a nifty video of your "moves" on his blog.

Hi Craig, Wallpaper gotta go ~ We had a seller that had roosters in every room. That was her theme throughout the house and all walls had a different pattern of them...she wouldn't take any of it down. She felt others would feel the same way she did about roosters ~ Well we priced it right, and it sold!

Charita - Nor have I... especially when the home is on the market for sale.

Conrad - This is so 70's too and I wouldn't buy it now... or then!

Tammy - Paint is sooooo much easier to change than wallpaper. When people buy a new home they don't want to have to do a lot of work. Removing wallpaper is a lot of work. Painting is a breeze!

Nick - Really? You only charge a dollar for that service. Boy do I hate you discounters!!!

Tom - You'd have to be "utterly wasted" to put up wallpaper these days!

Dorie - The public demands answers to these burning questions! And, now I think they know how we feel!

Donna - I saw Richard's post. He'll get his when he least expects it! I have the Photoshop powers and I'm not afraid to use them!

Larry & Sheila - I can only imagine what that place looked like. But at the right price, anything will sell!

Definitely not a fan of wallpaper!  I actually had a seller (after the closing) stop back and yell at the new buyer because they were taking down the wallpaper.  Ay yi yi!

What's to like? The delightful innovative patterns that induce almost immediate gastronomical distress. Now wallpaper for my computer is a whole different story. Right now I have a picture of my two girls from our summer vacation. That of course produces an infinitely nicer response.

Enjoy your polls Craig.  Had buyers turn down a house because the house had walls with painted wallpaper.

Debra - As if that seller didn't already know that the new owners were going to be making some changes?

James - Speaking of wallpaper, check out this story about the origin of the Windows default wallpaper. It's an interesting read.

Gloria - I think we've all been there Gloria. Tear down the wall(paper)!!!

Well I guess I'm in the minority (again)  It all depends on the homes you are selling or living in.  If you're in typical cookie-cutter homes, or selling them, I guess dull decorating is necessary.  I however, sell homes that are 100 - 200 years old.  These homes scream for wallpaper and they are absolutely gorgeous because of the wallpaper that has been chosen.  Most have vintage style paper and would look ridiculous without.  They also have heavy drapes, usually velvet or  brocade -  most of you hate these too LOL

Susan - I do agree with you that there are some homes, especially historical ones where wallpaper does have its place. However, more often than not though, buyers do not want to see it in your more traditional homes.

Donne - But how do you really feel Donne?!!!

Wallpaper in the right places and the right designs are okay. Most of the model homes for new tract homes in 2004-2007 here in Riverside CA have them mostly in the bathrooms and some are strategically placed in  master bedrooms and they usually go with the whole house theme. The designs are not outdated so it adds character to an otherwise boring room. So wallpapers done right is okay and won't turn people off, otherwise they won't place them on model homes. Having said that, however, old dated wallpapers in a whole room or a whole house is another story. Definitely a no no...

JO - I'm with you on the model homes having wallpaper to accentuate a room. Some of those home stagers do a wonderful job and with the right wallpaper it does add that wow factor buyers need to help influence their decisions. But in a resale, or dated wallpaper.... Tear it down!
