A Day on Block Island- Rhode Island's Best Kept Secret. It is the escape anyone might be looking for...stress free, full of sun and beaches, great food at the restaurants, boating haven for sure and yes so much more- that is right I am talking about RI's best kept secret Block Island.
Pristine in landscape, rolling hills (really on this small island of 17 miles of beaches), high bluffs and precipices, it captivates the soul to be spending time here and that is what I did a week ago with friends.
Scooting away aboard the Block Island ferry from Galilee RI, it is a 50 minute ferry ride to Old Harbor which is where the town is. We're going to BI we shout out as we pull away from the dock! It is a smooth sail over and pulling into Old Harbor where the marinas are as well as New Harbor, motoring or sailing your boat into this picturesque 'Bermuda of the North' island is on a first come, first served placement. So be early!
Most people will bring their bikes over from the mainland to pedal the roadways or rent mopeds to explore the Block Island. Either way BI drivers are very tolerant in sharing the roadways with the tourists. This island is here to be explored by all who come from the lighthouses to the beach pathways, there is a full day's worth of exploration to be had. Don't forget about Southeast Light - it almost went into the ocean before this historic lighthouse was moved back from the edge of the Bluffs.
You will want to shop a bit and pick up a Block Island souvenir or just decide to eat up a storm at the many great restaurants that line the roadway in town. We hit 'sushi Bob' s place up and it was, as I have heard, the best place to get sushi I have been to! The lines were long and take a number and hope he doesn't run out of spicy tuna rolls before my number is called.
Live music flows through the air as you wander down to BI's Crescent Beach which is part of the town beach and yes, it is free to all. Woo hoo! Nothing like the salt water and waves to set you at ease and ponder the beautiful creation of simple enjoyment at hand. Relaxation was the order of the day and I was feeling like jello for sure.
A day in the life of a North Kingstown realtor is to explore and appreciate the landscapes of one's state even when busy - for how else can you sell it?! You will find 95% of the BI real estate here over $1 million up to nearly $8 million so it is high priced real estate and deep pockets are required especially since most of the homes are summer homes for out of state dwellers. If you have the dollars, I can find the BI real estate to match your needs...with 40 Block Island homes for sale on the small island there is a diverse selection to choose from.
Catching the last ferry was unfortunately a must for me. Yet there are plenty of nice hotels and B & B's to stay in on BI. One thing you will not find is any hotel chains or restaurant chains on BI...it is kept that way for a reason. So come and enjoy southern Rhode Island's best kept secret Block Island. A Day on Block Island- Rhode Island's Best Kept Secret.
