Don't Cross That Line - Oh Go Ahead You'll Still Be In Alexandria

I-495

Alexandria VA Real Estate - Well just what is 'that line' anyway?  That line is I-495, also know as 'The Beltway' or 'The Capital Beltway'.  The beltway is the circle, or interstate highway that surrounds Washington DC.  So yes, even when it comes to traffic, Washington DC is the center of attention.

When you say that you want to live in Alexandria, did you know that there are actually two Alexandrias?  There is the City of Alexandria, which is inside of the beltway.  When you are searching for Alexandria VA homes for sale in the multiple listing service, you will see some listings where the MLS number starts with 'AX'.  This means that the home is located within the City of Alexandria.  The big draw to Alexandria City is reduced commute times for northbound communters, more metro stations, more bike trails, and more urban lifestyle.

Larger neighborhoods in Alexandria City include Old Town, Del Ray, Beverley (Beverly) Hills, Warwick Village, Duke Street Corridor, Alexandria West (area of Alexandria west of I-395), Cameron Station, Fairlington, Seminary Valley.

Once you 'cross the line' southbound, you have entered Fairfax County.  Alexandria continues, but under a different jurisdiction.  While searching for Alexandria VA homes for sale, these listings start with 'FX' for Fairfax County.  Some people are drawn to this side of Alexandria because of the Fairfax County Public School system, distance from the city (yes, there are some people who want to get away from DC), and more of a suburban lifestyle.  Larger neighborhoods on this side of the line include the Greater Mount Vernon Area, Kingstowne, Manchester Lakes, Franconia, Hybla Valley, and the Route 1 Corridor.

So, when you decide to 'cross that line' and make Alexandria VA your home, please call me at 703-623-8759 for help.

Tamara, great local post on one of the quirks of looking for homes in Alexandria.  I find that most people moving here from out of the area don't realize the difference between AX City and AX, Fairfax County.

Thanks Barbara: Alexandria VA is pretty popular, and most people who are relocating here are not aware that there are two!

Thanks Coral: You're right, most people don't realize it!  I hope this blog post gives people a good explanation about the two Alexandrias.

Tamara  You really "hit a home run" with that video.  There is so much to do, see and enjoy in Alexandria.  History is only a small part of its' "flavor"
