I took this pic earlier this year when we visited SF. Going again this weekend and hoping to catch the spooky Alcatraz tour....seems appropriate for this time of year. Anyone done it?
Kerrie, you have a rowboat, a sailboat and a big cruiser in that shot. Fun. I hope you really have a great time, and remember to share your photos with us!
As a kid, I believe taht I was there, but I don't remember anything. It'd be fun to see it again.
What a beautiful picture, I've never been to Alcatraz, hope you're able to get in on the tour. Please blog about it if you do, I'd love to hear what it's like.
Nope, but it sounds like something I would like. My favorite "tour" ever was the New Orleans haunted house tour.
Being a former corrections office, I have always been interested in that place.
Kerrie - I have a dirty little secret. Although I have lived in Sacramento nearly all my life, and am within 90 miles of San Francisco, I have never been to Alcatraz. I have seen it plenty of times from Fisherman's Wharf and other areas around the City, but haven't visited the island up close and personal. I need to fix that one of these days! Neat photo!
Hi Kerrie,
May be during your visit you can make sure some of the recent spammers are locked up in some of the very deepest and darkest cells and throw away the keys.... (hey this could be a great contest...... "If you could lock up some one who would it be" ;)
Have pfunn
Sadly, Kerrie, I'm a born and raised Californian and have never been to Alcatraz. I've been close to it on a boat but never touched foot on it! Have a great time! Hope you get some good weather!!
I took the tour a million years ago when the wheel was still square, and sliced bread was just a thought. It was really an interesting tour full of great history and sights. Enjoy it Kerrie!
Bwah ha ha ha! I'd be up for that if I made it out that way. Sounds like an earily good time. Hope you have FUN!!!
Kerrie - Be careful you don't fall down into some hidden trap door dungeon! :-)
Kerrie, what a great photo, and doing a Halloween visit will be a bit spooky. As many times as I have visited SF, never taken that tour! I think the NAR convention will be there in 2013, and I will be attending that one!
LOVE Alcatraz, I remember it was kind of spooky walking in those empty jail cells! The island is also full of pelicans hanging around the trees. HAVE A GREAT TIME going over there!
Kerrie, that is one of the best tours in the city, lived there for a long time, great tour but bring a jacket that ferry ride can be cold, cold cold
Oh yes Kerrie. 30 minutes from me. Took a school field trip there growing up. Just a bit better than "Scared Straight" :) It is a great tour with great views.
That is a gorgeous picture! My uncles has gone at that tour and he said it was an awesome experience! I whs I lived a lot closer to go visit and take the tour.
Too bad that the beautiful island was ever used for a prison.........it would have been a great place for something else............
It was a great experience to visit, see that families (the guards and staff) grew up there - the hardships and the interesting people. What a piece of history. It is not a beautiful Island....It is the most windy, cold, unfriendly place - a true horror show. It was a great place for a prison. No wonder nobody was ever confirmed ESCAPED.
