Today's Real Estate Activities - Dec. 9th, 2011

Today may prove to be a very interesting day.  One of my listings has recently had a home inspection performed on it and the dreaded word "MOLD" is written in big letters.

The confusing thing is that in the great state of New Jersey, there are no standards for what is an acceptable or what is an unacceptable mold level.  There is also no certification for a "Mold Specialist".

It leaves you with the feeling of what is this stuff and who is the best person to talk to about it?mold

I recently had the pleasure to meet someone on staff with the state health department.  After I explained what was happening at this property, he advised me to talk to several companies that specialize in mold.  I'm sure this will be fascinating.  (Ok, I'm being a tad sarcastic here)

The truth is that I have heard so many horror stories about home inspections and mold that I am very worried for my client.  I promise I'll stop back here later in the day to let you know what I learn about  approaching a potential mold issue when/if you are attempting to sell your home.

There certainly are many repair problems that can pop up while selling a home:  structural, termite damage, radon, septic repairs, unpotable well water and the list goes on and on and on.....

"Mold" is the one word you just never want to hear.

Mold has been around since cave men. It's like a lot of things, if you are allergic to cats it will affect you,so can mold but it may not. I dislike the home inspectors that hold themselves as mold experts and don't conduct the test properly.

As you are reading this, you're breathing mold. It's when we provide the mold with a place to grow and water to live off of that we have problems. Find out where the source of water is, fix that problem, and then clean up the mold.  Google mold and also check out the EPA website.

Good morning, fellas.  We're in the process of determining where the water is coming from now.  Hopefully, this will be resolved very soon.  Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
