Just another day in Paradise

Winter is coming. This year, there are more empty houses on the market than in years past.
It is time to Winterize!
house in snow
I went through my list of homes that are empty and contacted Mike. Mike works for Tri-Con USA and can be reached at 301-668-4868. He handles all the winterizing for most of the agents in my office. He took my list and headed off to take care of business.
All went well. Then Mike called and said "John, this house has a sprinkler system." I replied, "OK, winterize it." Mike said, "Well, if I do and there is a fire, the house will burn down." Hmmm, I answered "OK, don't winterize the sprinkler system. Just leave the heat on 50 degrees." Mike shared that "I would do that but it is an old gas furnace and if the pilot goes out, a spark could set off an explosion." I thought for a moment. "Well Mike, if you winterize, the house will burn down. If you don't it will blow up. Why don't you tell me what you would do if it were your house?"
Mike paused and said "I wouldn't have gas heat."
I told him, "Winterize it, I'll take my chances with the fire department."
Solomon should have had such easy decisions.
I feel grateful to have the support of folks like Mike to call on in times like this.

LOL What a dilemma! To winterize or not to winterize, that is the question.

Great story, John.  I can see why you decided to blog about it!

On a side note, can you recommend a Bethesda restaurant for several ActiveRainers to meet for lunch after Christmas?   Email me.

Funny - now J-mac you do know it's in the constitution that you have to retire in Florida. Here "winterize it" means open all the windows because it's 55 degrees outside and time to air the house out! We only get that opportunity a few days a year.

By the way - something potentially of interest to you - and I know I shouldn't but you're a friend. Heck we have broken bread together (well ok - NFL hot dogs, but there was a bread-like substance surrounding the warm thing in the middle and they did charge us $4.50 a pop for them) and so you might be interested in the following entry in my blog - Listen to my interview with Glenn Beck!

Rosario - I know that the majority of folks sitting at home wondering why agents earn the big bucks never stop to realize that we do a great deal more than surf the web and place for sale signs in the ground.

Margaret - It is so nice to have you drop by and comment. I have assigned my in-house restaurant connosieur the task of finding a suitable meeting place. You will love her. I do. I shall be in touch. I did mention the potential gathering to that rascal on the other side of the bridge BB and told him that I would muster a one day pass if should like to join us.

Simon - I know you must tire of the accolades, the show is wonderful. It warms my heart to know that the airwaves are carrying the truth at least once a week when you are on the air.

Thank you for your thoughts and friendship.

Thank you for your kind words John. It is a shame you ignored the Florida version of "Winterizing", but I understand that you'd rather not think about that. Coldest night of the year here tonight. I ALMOST put a log on the fire. We should be waking up in the 40s!
