Lane Calvert- Invited us all to attend the Joint 90th Anniversary of the Anaheim and Orange
Rotary Clubs-- on Monday February 27 at the Diamond Club of Anaheim Stadium
Time 4-7PM Cost: $20 Bring potential members
Each club is invited to set up a table with community, vocational or international
projects. Includes "heavy hors d'oeuvres" and a tour of the stadium.

Jenny Hill- Announced the fund raiser for Santiago Charter Middle School
a Tex Hold 'em and Silent Auction- March 10th 6:30PM at the East Lake Village
Clubhouse, 5325 Village Center Dr., Yorba LInda.
$50 per person or $75 per couple. Checks payable to: Santiago PTSA and
send it to Mrs Barron in the Santiago School Office.
Includes: Dinner, drinks and gaming chips
Ed Howard- announced a parent and community forum to be held in the Villa Park High Library
at 3:30 on February 26th. This is an opportunity to make comments to the
accreditation team that will be evaluating the high school. Parents and community
member are welcome.
Jill Kuli reported that the club received a $600 donation from the proceeds of the sale of
Jeannie Hankins household goods. Jill thanked Lainey Stern, Jason Mefford
and Danny Friedl for there help. The money will go toward a Rotary Sign at Villa
Park High.
Bob Meyer- thanked those donating goods for the troops.
Wayne Silzel announced a free concert at the Covenant Presbyterian Church on Saturday,
February 11th featuring a well known Christian singer.. Food Trucks and bounce houses
will round out the celebration. Cost: Free
Lisa Stepanski- has sent in the funding for four students to attend RYLA - we are still looking
for candidates, who must be high school juniors. Deadline for applications is March 19th.
Happy Bucks:
Bill Baker was happy to find fellow Rotarians at the gourmet food truck event at Villa Park High
last night. Come on out next Wednesday evening and enjoy the food while supporting
the Aquatics Programs at Villa Park High.
Marsha Leeg was sad to say she is going back to Nevada and will miss us.
Marianne Koepnick had a lucky streak in Laughlin and won a bundle of money on the video poker
machines
Ed Carter- reminded us about the Villa Park Elementary Dad's Club Clothing Drive and thanked
those who have donated. He was also very happy that his warehouse closed escrow.
Will Warren is going on a Caribbean Cruise with his family, but today is a big day for his
branch of the Union Bank. The CEO of Union Bank is visiting this afternoon.
Eric Sense announced that he is not going to go to this Sunday's SuperBowl. This is the
first game in 14 years he will not attend. The good news is he gets to attend the going
away party his wife throws for him the day after he leaves.
Drawing: $330 Lucky Millie Alexander drew the Joker. She sat at the table with Lucky
Marianne Koepnick and some of the luck must have rubbed off.
Millie is going to help a friend pay their rent.

Types of Abuse:
1. Emotional- attacking the emotional well being of an individual
2. Physical- harming the physical well-being of an individual
3. Neglect- harming by abandoning, ignoring or rejecting one's basic needs
4. Ethical- acting against the physical, moral, religious or ethical beliefs of an individual
5. Sexual- acting in appropriate ways with an individual
6. Sexual Harassment- inappropriate touching, suggestions, comments, or jokes.
If abuse is reported you must take action:
1. report the abuse to the person in charge or Youth Protection Officer and then take
the information to the police
2. follow strict reporting guidelines
Girls are more commonly the the victims and the abuser can be a man or a women.
The abuse is not always overt and can be subtle
Most abusers are well known to the victims and are trusted.
Two Deep Supervision is required at Rotary Events with minors( less than 18 yrs old)
i.e., don't be alone with kids- two adults should be present.
-insure proper supervision is available.
Preventing False Accusations:
1. Don't be alone with a child in a car- unless its your own child.
2. If you must speak to a child alone out of earshot, make sure you are within sight of others
3. Privacy during toilet use, showering and clothing changes must be respected.
4. Give appropriate hugs when called for, hug the side not the front.
5. No sexual jokes or messages.
6. No corporal punishment
7. Set and respect physical boundaries.
8. Resist overtures of innappropriate behavior from minors
Reporting Guidelines:
1. Receive the report
2. Listen and Stay calm
3. Assure privacy and confidentiality
4. Get the facts, but don't interrogate
5. Be nonjudgemental and reassure
6. Document the allegations in writing
7. Protect the young person- remove them from the situation
8. Report the allegations to the appropriate authorities
9. Avoid Gossip and blame.
10. Do not physically challenge the alleged offender
Mike Darnold is the District 5320 Youth Protection Officer and will be giving additional training
seminars on March 24th and 31st.
