Agent's Guide to Real EstateIn this tough market, new agents need every bit of help they can get, and even seasoned real estate agents could use some tips on staying competitive. That's where David Rathgeber's book, Agent's Guide to Real Estate: Power your Career to Financial Success and Personal Happiness (Kindle edition, 2012), comes in.

So many of the "how to succeed in real estate" type of books on the market are aimed at brand new agents who have just gotten a license, and don't offer much for agents who have been in the business for any length of time. Agent's Guide to Real Estate is not one of those books; it offers a wealth of information and tips to agents of all experience levels.

Reading Agent's Guide feels a bit like you've been given the opportunity to sit down and have a mentoring conversation with a top producer. New agents will find Rathgeber's information on negotiating and understanding local markets and laws invaluable. Experienced agents can benefit from topics that include how to make your business grow and how to market yourself effectively in a modern world.

The only criticism I have of this book is that Rathgeber often treats the Internet as a new concept. Most agents will probably find this odd, but those agents who haven't quite embraced social networking and modern technology will find his information useful.

Agent's Guide is best when it focuses on strategies for working with buyers or sellers, and insights into contract negotiations and closing a deal. New agents will love the tips, and experienced agents will find ways to fine tune their skills and gain an edge over the competition. Finally, Rathgeber's practicality and sense of humor infuse every page of Agent's Guide, making it a genuinely enjoyable book to read.
