Marketing with Twitter

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace NV License # 56750

www.ShoestringBranding.comAt the NAR convention last month in Las Vegas, I began to understand some of the uses for Twitter. Attendees used it to communicate everything from what the best exhibits were, to where to grab a bite to eat, to hilarious and spontaneous observations. Others used it to stream the best soundbites from featured speakers and breakout sessions.

Since then, I've followed about 40-50 other TwitWits, most of them real estate agents. We use it to share links, brainstorm ideas, or just for a little mini-socializing - all in 140 characters or less.

Mario Sanchez at Shoestring Branding extends Twitter even further with "Creative Ways to Use Twitter for Marketing and Branding." New blog post or press release? Announce it on Twitter. Have a price reduction, special financing, or open house? Share it on Twitter.

Technology is just a tool. It's what we do with it that makes it special. With Twitter, as you follow more people and more follow you, you'll strengthen your brand and your connections will grow exponentially. And you never know who or where your next lead, listing or sale will come from.

Sounds like Twitter could be rather useful especially if others in your marketplace are also users.

I have used twitter for a couple of months now, I feel like in my line of work (Web Technologies) I have to, and have to understand practical everyday applications for it.  Right now I feel like I am reaching to find and application for it, so have concentrated on the gazillion other web2.0'ish social media apps out there. I guess at some point, you have to make a choice as to which ones to leave behind, and twitter sits on the fence for me right now.  Things can change, they always do...

Thanks for the post, this is exactly what I was looking for. The creativity comes from finding the unorthodox uses that may produce great results.

How receptive are the typical homeowners to signing up for something like this? I can see the benefit among say realtors for example for brain storming. Could be a tough sell to help spread the word to clientel through twitter in my opinion.

John - I know this is an old post, but I was searching AR for some good ideas of Twitter uses and came up with this. I just joined Twitter and I am trying to find some of my online buddies... I came across your real estate link here and think I found something. Thank you...

I just came back from Twitter after using one of the tips in Mario's blog linked above - thanks for the information. My first entry into twitter was a message about a recent foreclosure listing. I have no idea who would read what I just wrote, but, I guess you never know!

I use Twitter to announce open houses, new listings and (hopefully) interesting things that will fit in 140 words toward my clients, friends and peers.

Twitter is the Next Killer Application! Thanks for posting this late last year. By the end of this year growth on Twitter will have been five thousand percent!

Well, I can see how twitter could be useful to provide information on new listings or an open house.  Now I just need to figure out how to use it.
