Things to do in Franklin, NC | Appalachian & Bartram Trails

Franklin, NC has a lot to offer being its such a small little town nestled in the Mountains of the Nantahala National Forest.  One of our most popular things to do in Franklin, NC is to hike the mountain trails.  There is a abundant places around here from easy hike's to very strenous hikes.  Two of the most well known are  Appalachian and Bartram Trails. Franklin is an official Appalachian Trail friendly destination.

As the Appalachian Trail was explicitly designed to be hiked, it includes resources to facilitate hikers. Some are common to trails throughout North America, while some are unique to the Appalachian Trail. The trail is much more frequently hiked south to north (i.e. Georgia to Maine) than vice versa. Hikers typically begin in March or April and finish in late summer or early to late fall of that particular year (or, in the case of southbound hikers, June to March).

Good information. I am guessing there are probably a couple of really nice golf courses somewhere along those hillsides as well.

June - I've hiked the Appalachian trail here in NJ, but I'm sure it's not as gorgeous as Franklin, N. Carolina. I've met people on the trail who were hiking the whole length from GA to MA - can't imagine hiking that distance! You didn't mention it's also a great place to get out and ride your motorcycle! Have you been out much? One of these days I'm going to ride! (Love your new profile picture!)

Your Welcome Anna B

John your welcome anytime my friend.

Hi Kristine, yes we went out last Sunday for a long ride to Helen Ga.  It's an awesome ride through the mountains and around Lake Burton.  Perfect weather last weekend.

Nick, I have never hiked it but would like to someday.
