Yorktown's Tall Ship: The Alliance

By
Real Estate Agent with RLAH@properties AB95346

Last week, we visited Yorktown, Virginia, which is the site where the British surrendered ending the Revolutionary War.  After walking around the monument and the pretty town, we went down to the waterfront.  And there she was!  A three masted tall ship called The Alliance.

Now she looks really, really old.  But the ship was actually built in 1995.  She has been sailing ib the York River for the last seven years.  You can hop aboard for one of her several cruises a day or even charter the boat for a special occassion.   Hmm.  Think th4e captain performs weddings?  And if so, are they valid for longer than the duration of the cruise?

We have not been there but maybe we will pay a visit. That tall ship looks so peaceful in that sea.

Hi Pat , These are my favorite ship. However today the new San Diego Amphibious was christened here in San Diego. It is such a way different looking naval ship. But I still have to say that the Tall Ships are where it's at for me.

There is so much history in your area.  This is just one of the many great examples of interesting places to visit and learn about our Naval History.

Pat - that would indeed be a wonderful place to have a wedding! I did my last wedding in 2000 on a ship. We did a dinner cruise with friends and family and had the wedding performed on board. It was really wonderful. I think both my ex and I agree that it was a great wedding and we are still friends.

Pat - we have had a group of Tall Ships come into Tacoma a couple times in the last several years.  It was interesting to go on board, and see how small some of these ocean crossing ships were.

Pat, what a great photo! - Love the post, makes me wish I'd seen one of those in person. I'll have to keep my eyes and ears open, I am sure that should be possible for me to see them at some point somewhere here on the Gulf Coast, not only up by Yorktown, VA!

The Alliance is a breautiful ship. I remember watching a lot of boat shows when I was a young boy in Boston. This picture reminded me of those times.
