How Do You Cope With Stress: Smoking-Drinking-Drugs-Blogging????

We can learn a lot about people by reading what they write.  Blogging is a reflection of how we think and the attitude that we have about each topic we discuss.  Writing is a method of communicating, and communicating is synonymous with marketing.

When we market, we are connecting with people; we are publicizing information; and that conveyance of how we think and express ourselves is what leads to another real estate client.  If someone reads a post and the style and information in that post is appealing to them, they become followers of your blog and they will eventually communicate back to you.

If information is shared with others and that information is useful, you’ll find yourself with subscribers.  There are many on ActiveRain who have not taken the plunge.  I know these individuals know how to communicate because they sell real estate, and I’ve communicated with them.

It’s obvious that they want to blog because they keep coming back for more.  They don’t leave the site and never return; they continue to read posts and comment; and they want so desperately to write that first blog post.

They’re well versed on many topics but they just don’t have the courage to reduce their thoughts to writing and share that opinion.  They’re shielding themselves from the public and controlling who they allow to know them.

Blogging can be very stressful until that first post is submitted, but once that happens, blogging becomes a wonderful way of relieving stress.  It's a peaceful way of venting; glass doesn't shatter; the police are never notified; there's no bar bill; you're not breaking the law; and your lungs won't be destroyed.  You don't know what you're missing until you start blogging.

Too funny Barbara...I know that when I don't blog for a while, I actually miss it.  It can definitely be an addiction and is healthier for sure than drugs or alcohol :)!

Hi Barbara - I couldn't agree with you more!   Until recently, my blogs were mostly analytical / educational in nature.

Over the past few weeks, I've had some real doozie situations arise which prompted me to blog about them.   The most recent was about another agent who made a gaffe and then explained it away.   That got me hopping!   I fantasized for a while about what I'd like to say, then decided it would be wiser not to go there.     Because going there was not in the best interest of either of the clients.   I told my finacee, hey this is going to make a great blog, and I got more comments on that blog than ever before.

Blogging is a great way to express our perspective, define our priorities, and get helpful feedback from agents across the country that I may never meet.   And as you say, it provides stress relief!

Barbara, I believe there is a common misconception about blogging. My first post was information on a new recreation center that opened in August 2009. It was chalked full of useful information. BORING!! No personality in that post whatsoever.

I have since learned that consumers want useful information but they also want to connect with us on some level. I do produce a lot of market reports but I also write interesting anecdotes about my real estate experiences and my personal life. This provides readers with so much more than just the local real estate news. They come to know me. Not only who I am as a real estate agent but who I am as a person. That leads to more sales and a better working relationship.

People who understand this from the beginning will find it so much easier to write that first blog post.

Barbara, blogging can definitely be calming.  I consider it journaling for an audience! I had never thought about the therapeutic benefits before!

Tammie....I agree fully.... and I can relate to that story....I started the same way.... boring posts about the subdivisions.... now we mix it up....some are still boring!!

Sharon....real estate agents need all the therapy they can get....and how convenient.... better than traveling to a session....

I was somewhat hesitant about writing my first blog post.  I made a few comments here and there and finally took the plunge thanks to the Boot Camp.  The homework, oops the action items included writing specific blogs.  I have to admit it was fun and exciting.

It's so true Barbara.  My very first post was just a bunch of ramblings....here I am blogging...don't know what I'm doing.  The comments and the encourage came quick.  I was still nervous and it took me some time to write another post, but I finally did and I'm SO glad I did!  This is a wonderful place to blog.  It's comfortable and inviting!

If you are new to blogging...don't be afraid...just jump in.  We'll catch you!

Blogging on Active Rain is certainly an addiction.  But perhaps I need to slow down and do it better is what I have been thinking.

Barbara,

I commented on your Featured "stress" post about a year ago.  Blogging doesn't reduce my stress, but three things do:

  1. Give bad news first (or make the call I don't want to make first)
  2. Deep diaphragmatic breathing, like in mediation;
  3. Good wine.

But I'm happy blogging works for you.  Do you ever get so un-stressed and relaxed that you fall asleep in the middle of writing?
