Announcing the scholarship winners of “What makes a house a HOME?”
In May 2012, Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty held its second annual essay scholarship contest, “What makes a house a HOME.” This year, we had about 50 high school student entrants who submitted terrific essays.
We are proud to announce the winners…..
1st Place, $1,000 scholarship - Starlynn Simon, Olympia
My house is where every “first” for me has ever taken place, every memory and every moment that has made me, me.
(Starlynn with her mom Kerri Simon)
2nd Place, $750 scholarship – Madeline Seaman, Olympia
When I walk through my house I see two different homes; the home of my grandparents and the home where I live now, both places filled with love.
(Madeline with her parents Scott & Shelley Seaman)
3rd Place, $500 scholarship – Evan Taylor, Olympia
Home is not defined by money or other superficial characteristics. A home can be anywhere or built out of anything. It is not just a shelter; it is a refuge.
(Evan with his mom Kristen Taylor)
Congratulations to our winners!
I am proud to be working with Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty – a leader in helping people find a house to call home. My brokerage has long supported numerous community organizations. Ken Anderson, president of the company said,
We were thrilled to see so many students enter again this year. This is a rewarding program for us; to highlight local students’ writing achievements and provide assistance with educational costs. We look forward to sponsoring this contest again in the future.
The quality of the writing made this a very tough decision for our community judging panel. The students’ stories inspired us.
