Florida living is a lifestyle.....

Spring Hill, Florida real estate professional and ActiveRain blogger Silvia Dukes has provided a beautiful photograph to remind us of the quality of life available in Florida.

Many of our Maryland residents are ready to retire their snow shovels and move south.

Florida Nature and Bird Watching:  Fire Spike and Hummingbird

The bright red flowers of the Fire Spike in my Hernando Beach yard attracted hungry visitors today!

I grew this Fire Spike (Odontonema strictum) a few years ago from a cutting.  With the regular rain we have been blessed with this summer, it has flourished and produced two dozen or so stalks with those fire-engine red flowers.  It attracts butterflies and of course, hummingbirds!

If you look close, this little hummingbird is actually holding on to one of the flower spikes in order to drink from another.

Bird watching in Hernando Beach, Florida, is always a treat and you can do it right from your own back yard.  There are so many different birds to observe from the very large ones like our beautiful Sandhill Cranes to the tiniest ones like this little Hummingbird.  You never know what you will see at any given day but you can be assured that you will see a great variety.

Thank you Roy for reblogging this post.  This fire spike is still growing in my front yard attracting both hummers and butterflies.

It is sometimes a good practice to revisit old blogs and reblogs. We might even find some good ideas for current posts.
