The Gift That Keeps on Giving - Thoughts on a Great Closing Gift

As Real Estate Professionals, we get so many ideas for closing gifts..... We have all been bombarded with the practical ideas for closing gifts - knife sets, home improvement store cards, paint brush sets, restaurant gift cards...  And the whimsical ideas - golf lessons, make up and skin care sets, wine of the month club....

Tool boxFor my home buyers, I always get them a home warranty.

This lasts about a year (ok, 14 months), and it covers the usual suspects.  Like any warranty, some people will never use it - they will never need to.

But for those who do, it can be a life saver.

Yesterday, I realized that one of my buyers had been in her home for 6 months already, so I gave her a call to say hello and see how things were going.  We played a couple rounds of phone tag, with her last message to me being "Give me a call back about that Home Warranty you gave us... I wanted to tell you something about it."

Hmmm... I thought... I hope this is something good....

When I got a hold of her, the first thing she said, was "Thank you so much for that warranty!  You could not possibly gotten us a better closing gift!"  She went on to say that about 2 months after moving in, the hot water heater went out.  In August, the air conditoner compressor went out.  In both cases, there was a $55 trip fee, and in the case of the a/c, a $100 fee to refill the freon.

And that was it.  The water heater (it was a huge one) would have been about $1500, and the a/c repair about $1700, she said.

Now, that's the gift that keeps on giving!

Hi Jenn, That is a very generous gift and I have heard of many agents doing that.

Those can be worth their weight in gold.  I am speaking from personal experience.
