The way we work is a reflection of our attitude and how we think. This is usually derived from our early childhood days, and what we learned in those early years is brought forth and played throughout our lives. Real estate is a job that provides “no pre-warning” when new tasks are presented. There is usually very little lead time. On occasion, we have tasks that are not due for a week or a month. How do you handle each task as it is presented?
For many reasons, I address each task immediately when it is presented. There is never an occasion whereby a task is put aside to be finished in a week or by the end of the month. The task is complete when it is given, regardless of when it is due.
If I have a newspaper ad to submit within a three week period, my ad will be submitted within the first 24 hours of that time period and I'll have plenty of time to change that proof. If there are blog posts to be written, they will be prepared many days in advance and submitted in a timely fashion.
Whether it’s a personal or business task, it will be completed in a timely fashion. There is no “back burner” with this attitude; there is no procrastinating; and my greatest fear is to be bombarded with work and not generate a quality product.
If we think about the worst case scenario and work with that in mind “we will never put off until tomorrow what we can complete right now.” Quality work cannot be generated when working under pressure. There are many who will wait until the final hour to complete a task. Procrastination is the precursor of a failed structure. Remove the word, procrastinate, from your vocabulary and program yourself to pump out that work in a timely fashion. You’ll feel accomplished; you’ll always be ready for the next task; and you will be capable of handling a phenomenal amount of work.
