What will you plant in your North Carolina vegetable garden?

Spring is right around the corner and I am excited to start my vegetable garden!

Here are some ideas and tips for your vegetable garden...

Carrots, cabbage, collard greens, onions, leaf lettuce, spinach, beets, and broccoli should be planted by the 1st of April for Spring harvest.

Melons, tomatoes, peppers, squash, sweet corn, cucumbers and beans should be planted by mid to late April be ready for harvest in summer.

There are some important things to do prior to planting...

Ensure your garden is in a spot that will see about 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.

Prepare your soil. Turn and work in organic matter to improve the soil quality.

Ensure that your garden has proper drainage.

Plan your garden to ensure that your vegetables have proper spacing to grow.

After you plant your vegetables, maintain your vegetable garden by making sure that it gets 1-2 inches of water weekly, fertilize  it regularly and be sure to weed it as needed.

                                    Happy Gardening!
