Not too long ago I was contacted by an ActiveRain member who wrote the following:
Carla,
I have seen a few of your blogs and comments on mine so I figured I could start with you.
My brother in law is looking to buy a home that he is renting in the East Clackamus [sic] area I think.
They are friends and may be able to execute this between them, but since you specialize in first time home buyers, you might have some insight beyond just writing the contracts for them.
My brother in law has his VA eligibility and his DD214. I am reading up on their program in Oregon right now. I am not sure of his income, but the home will be around $275K.
What can you bring to the table on this beyond just writing a contract and working through title and appraisal?
Thanks

At first, I wasn't going to respond at all. I've only left 1 (ONE) comment on their blog -- ever -- so it wasn't as if I had developed any sort of rapport, as I have with a lot of AR colleagues.
When someone writes: ". . . so I figured I could start with you," it bodes the question, are they serious? Start with me?? And then what ? . . . end with someone else??
I don't like dealing with people who know people, who have a brother-in-law, or sister-in-law, or a nephew, niece, second cousin twice removed . . . they seem to be the biggest flakes when they call "on behalf" of someone. You want to refer someone, that's fine. GREAT! Thank-you very much. Contact my office for the standard referral policy and if accepted, then refer them.
Finally, "What can you bring to the table beyond just writing a contract and working through title and appraisal?"
Because this came to me FROM an AR member, who is also a licensee, I wanted to ask THEM the same question! What would YOU bring to the table in the same circumstances?
I wonder why this person even wrote me. I doubt they were serious. AND . . . I found it rather rude.
I did, however, email this person -- and just as I expected I've not heard one a word -- not even a THANK-YOU!
My gut told me not to bother . . .
NOTE TO SELF: Listen to your gut more often!
