After a month at Active Rain

By

I have now been a member here at Active Rain for about a month and I am enjoying the time I have spent here.  I like reading what others in the industry have to say about their careers, their jobs and the local markets they work in.  I love the supportive comments on other blogs and especially those made on mine.  Some of the other forums I have participated in recently have been just the opposite, where each writer tears down the thoughts of the previous.  After being here for this short period of time I realize I don't have the time or inclination to be forced to defend every word I write.

As a community, this one is healthy and nice respite in cyberspace.  Thank you all for such a warm welcome and I look forward to many more months of enjoyment.

Julie,

Good to hear that AR is a nice fit. As you learn more about things here, you'll realize how much it has to offer besides market exposure. For instance, there is so much info on mortgages, market updates, SEO, you name it, it's here. Enjoy and happy blogging.

Julie, I've been involved in online discussion forums for almost a decade and I know what you mean about how negative and adversarial most of them are.  There are a couple of things that keep AR pretty positive.  One of them is the points system, which encourages people to post and give info to others and comment on others posts.  Another is that we have to identify ourselves and can't hide behind a username.  And, finally, AR has a strong culture and clear value system that is articulated in the Active Rain Guidelines and adhered to by its most popular and respected members.  It a great place to come to relax and learn.  I've come to rely on it for information and camaraderie.
