“Open House”, “For Sale”, “For Lease” and “For Rent” Ordinance and Sign Requirements for City of Plano Texas
Permission of Property Owner
No person shall erect, construct, or maintain any sign upon any property or building without the consent of the owner, the person entitled to possession of the property or building, if any, or their authorized representative.
"Open House", "For Sale", "For Lease" and other real estate signs fall under Temporary signs which are governed by Article XII, Temporary Signs, of Chapter 6, Buildings and Building Regulations, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Plano and are explained below:
Sec. 6-492. Real estate signs. "For Sale", "For Lease" and "For Rent" Signs
Real estate signs may be erected in nonresidential and residential zoning districts and shall not exceed thirty-two (32) square feet with a maximum height of fifteen (15) feet. Required setback shall be eight (8) feet from front property line, and signs are limited to one (1) per street front. A real estate sign shall be removed upon the sale or lease of the property. Real estate signs advertising the lease of individual units in multifamily districts shall be allowed upon issuance of a certificate of occupancy for a period not to exceed one (1) year.

Sec. 6-492.1. Open house signs.
An off site open house sign size is limited to four (4) square feet with a maximum height of thirty (30) inches and may be placed on residential property with the consent of the owner. Off site open house signs will only be allowed from 9:00 a.m. on Saturday to 6:00 p.m. on the following Sunday in the same weekend. Off site open house signs shall not be displayed on weekdays.
