While the big deals are always exciting, the little deals often provide the best in terms of an emotional paycheck.
We were contacted by a consumer who lived in Montana. She had found us online and needed help liquidating a property that had been lived-in by her sister who had recently passed away. She had talked to a number of agents and nobody would help her. To complicate matters, the property belonged to her aging mother who was not only dealing with her age but the loss of her daughter. She also lived in another state.
We did some quick research and discovered the property was a mobile home on a little private lot in a city about 30 miles away. We drove out to take a look and discovered the property had been abandoned, was a complete mess, and worth about $12k. We would have usually passed on it but this family really needed help.
We listed the property and eventually found a cash buyer for it. The property closed and we earned a $300 paycheck. We actually lost money selling the property. However, the money was nothing compared to the emotional paycheck. The family was relieved that this was behind them and they could continue the healing process.
A listing we would not have usually taken turned out to be one of the emotional high-points of the year.
