‘He’s back’ … Frank Zappa (1940 – 1993)‘appears’ in the reimage by his son Dweezil Zappa with his six-piece band focusing on the works of his late father. He is the lead guitarist/vocalist and combines his unique qualifications along with the wind, string, drums and keyboard of the other members of Zappa Plays Zappa to recreate their own sound being fully devoted to conserving Frank Zappa’s distinctive music. Zappa’s ability to follow his father’s genre of music and recreate the mood … the scene … the happening … has been thrilling and pleasing audiences across the globe from Europe to Canada and home again in the United States since 2006 when Zappa Plays Zappa debuted. Now entering their ninth year, Dweezil Zappa’s project continues to deliver not only what Frank Zappa fans want to hear, but an exciting style of music to a whole new generation.
Zappa Plays Zappa consist of, along with Dweezil, the very versatile Scheila Gonzales on saxophone, flute, keyboards and vocals, Kurt Morgan on bass and vocals, Chris Norton on keyboard along with vocals, Joe Travers hot on the drums and vocals, and Ben Thomas one talented lead singer, as well as on the trumpet and trombone.
