2014 Calvert County Wade In

Water is essential to life on this planet.  Approximately 70% of the Earth is covered with water.  Our bodies are comprised of anywhere between 55-60% water.  According to survival experts' "rule of threes", you can go three weeks without food but only three days without water before your body starts shutting down.  The 2014 Calvert County Wade In helps physically show Calvert County residents the quality of our water resources in the Patuxent River.

At the 2014 Calvert County Wade In, former senator Bernie Fowler welcomes all Calvert County residents to join him in seeing how clear the water is by wading into the river with his white high tops.  The further out he can wade while still being able to see his sneakers, the better the river's water quality.  Mr. Fowler started making this an annual event back in 1988 at Broomes Island as a way to bring attention to our area's water quality.  He has continued the tradition ever since, with more and more citizens joining him in the process.

Everyone is welcome to join Mr. Fowler at the 2014 Calvert County Wade In.  While you're there, you can find out what you can do to help improve our county's water system.  We need to keep our rivers clean and clear for our health today as well as the future health of our children.
