It`s all about the money....

By
Industry Observer

Tonight's episode of The Celebrity Apprentice ended with Piers Morgan winning, simply because it`s all about the money! And Piers had the bigger Rolodex!

Bigger Rolodex

I was really disappointed to say the least. Yes, Piers substantially out raised Trace Adkins, but the manner in which it was accomplished was to me disgusting.

Piers has a brilliant mind, and a keen business sense but his tact and demeanor is in the toilet and not many enjoyed working with him, or respected him personally. His charity was the Intrepid Fallen Hero's Fund.

Piers vs Trace

Trace on the other hand was more laid back, reserved, poised, tactful, respected, but just didn't raise the kind of money Piers did. By a long shot! Trace raised about 100,000 or a little more, Piers raised over 400,000!

Trace Adkins signed on to participate in 'The Celebrity Apprentice' to create more awareness for the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network because his 6-year-old daughter suffers from severe food allergies. To learn more about the organization, visit http://www.foodallergy.org/

So with that being said, it makes me wonder if the old adage of "nice guys finish last" really does ring true. We read a lot of posts on AR about how people conduct themselves in the Real Estate business and I have seen some trainings where the trainer was, in my opinion a complete jerk, but the bottom line is he was VERY effective in business and selling Real Estate.

My question to all my fellow Rainers is what is your opinion on ruthlessness in Real Estate or business in general?

Do you think that being "TYPE A" and being effective but having a really ruthless and untactful demeanor outweighs being the nice guy who does everything with his morals in tact and his reputation for Integrity and treating people with respect at the forefront but is less effective in the business aspect?

If you were selling your house, who would you want on your side?

I am curious to hear the responses that come from this.

To your success,

Susan

I'll stick with morals and reputation for Integrity any day.  In reality, big does not always win, even if it appears that it has.   I can't make the bold go away, sorry.

Unfortunately, the unscrupulous often survive and thrive.  I've seen a great deal of this in my past 2.5 years as an agent. As the old-timers like to slam the newbies for their bad reputation - some should take a look in the mirror to find the problem.  Although there were plenty of "get rich quick" types entering when I did as well.

I think we need to have integrity, but at the end of the day, if you don't watch out for your self (or your client) NO ONE ELSE WILL!

Let's all find ways where we can take care of ourself wiith out being a jerk or deceptive!

PS I didn't get to see the show, but I wish Trace had won!  Do you know if they are going to replay it?

Doreen: Yes I believe in "DOING THE RIGHT THING" as well. I just found it interesting, that 98% of the participants said Trace should win but in the end Donald Trump gave it to Piers becuase of the money raised.

Ruthmarie: It just reminds of the Bible part that asks why those that do dark deeds get all the bounty. Those are not the right words but you get the drift! He may have raised the most money in the short term but I believe he hurt himself in the longterm.

Lynda: I am sorry!!!!! I didnt even think about the time difference!!!!

Pam: They usually do a rerun on the entire series in the off season. But I think you should be able to catch a rerun in the next few days or so???

Susan-In todays world it is about purpose and vision, about paying it forward and being able to sleep well at night. I am a very tough negotiator for my clients but I do it with honor and respect and I use tact and skill, wit and integrity. I like them to know I will be tough, but not ruthless. I will be forward but not hurtful. You must be proactive and not reactive. Kind but not wimpy. The one who angers easily and is a bully, will lose in the long run because they are really the weak ones.

Very Nicely said Katerina! I couldnt agree more. Piers in this show displayed a lot of those attributes but at the end of the day he hurt people. In his eyes and I guess Donald Trumps, in this case, the ends justified the means. I just didnt agree.

Hi again,

Not to worry for one minute. Now I've gone back and read your entire post. Before it was just the first sentence, I sort of wanted to wait until the end of the show.

Anyway to answer your question, in real estate your reputation is everything. When solving a problem we have one fundamental question in our office, "What's in the best long-term interest for our consumer?"  When your values are clear the decisions are easy. It's worked for us for 30+ years.

Lynda: Sorry again about runing the ending! I believe that doing the right thing is always best. I was really sad that Trump made it be all about the mighty dollar.

In Real Estate as Katerina mentioned, I think there is a way to be tough and not ruthless.

I cant wait toget my license so I can get to work!

I watched this as well, and I was really pulling for Trace to win.  He is a likeable and normal guy in my opinion.  Piers has a lot to learn about business ethics.

Jason: That is exactly what I thought as well. He may have been able to raise a lot of money but he didnt use very much tact in doing it.

So sad that you lost your dear friend David. My thoughts are with you.
