Going Above and Beyond is Normal but FUN!
I received a call from a gentleman the other day with a very thick accent.
He was hard to understand because of his accent and he had a carload of very noisy kids, but he was able to communicate to me through words here and there that I could pick up on - he had found a dog, was in Ganby, VT, and wanted to locate the owner. He assumed the owners were in Ganby for the long weekend, and their dog had gotten loose somehow. He then gave me the address, and asked if I knew them at all. He was panicking a little, because it was the Monday afternoon of this past holiday weekend.
What he had done was Googled the address from the dog tag, and because I advertise on Zillow, my name and picture popped up next to the property. He assumed their property was on the market. It was not.
The amazing thing was that the dog's owners live right down the street from me. I knew the previous owners quite well, but not these folks. So then the search was on for someone who knew these folks well enough to have their cell phone numbers.
After several calls to different neighbors - some home, some not, - the number for their cell phone was finally given by the person who lives next door.
When I called the owner of the dog and explained - she said they had been out all day searching everywhere for the dog. She was ecstatic!!! I gave her the number for reaching the gentleman, and hoped they would be able to get together.
YAY!
It took an hour out of my day, I got to briefly touch some neighbors, and felt really great for the family and that wonderful gentleman.
Thank you Zillow! Feels good to help strangers!
