WE'VE GOT A PAIR....

On my Christmas vacation in San Juan TX I saw a highway billboard with the large intro line "We've Got A Pair..." and it certainly caught my attention. Who would say that?             Can they say that?

Who was a law firm.

If anyone would know if they can say it I'd guess a law firm would know.

What else did it say? Underneath two side by side pictures of buildings in much smaller print it said: "Of offices to better serve you." or something like that.

OK, the reference was obvious and as somebody who has worked with attorneys in the past I assure you I want an attorney who has "a pair" and I don't mean offices. I'm not being sexist here, the best attorney I've hired had a pair and SHE really kicked ass for me when needed.

Where I'm going with this is: Early on in my career I thought I had a sure listing after the listing interview. Much to my surprise they called me back and said I was co-listing with another agent. This other agent had a very spotted reputation, one of those where people loved or hated him and NO middle ground. A little shocked I asked the lady of the house why him. Her answer was "because he's ballsy". They wanted someone known to be aggressive to get their house sold.

I don't want to be know as the "ballsy" agent of Minot but it was a good lesson early on in my career to know that Sellers often know who is forceful and that they want that person on their team. I've adapted my style to be about as forceful as my personality allows to trying to instill confidence in Sellers faith that I will get the job done. However I hope people hire me because they see I'm the best marketing Realtor in Minot... with a little can do attitude mixed in.

I've noticed that when testosterone gets mixed into a negotiation, it's usually because of an agent's ego, not the size of their skills.

Of course, some people mistake aggression for persuasion. Many can fake the former, many fewer the latter.

Oh Geeze.  Not sure I would call that law firm or that other Realtor.  It must work for them, but I wouldn't sign up for that.

Michael, I think you are correct but the agent I co-listed that deal with many years ago was very sucessful.

Erin, regretfully as a landlord going after dead beats, I have been in court many times and if you have a milk toast lawyer your case is toast. I'll take a strong brash lawyer over a wall flower anyday. That being said, as a man of strong Christian faith, I don't get very agressive, never been a bully.

GOOD MORNING BOB!  Well, that sure does get people's attention - but it's the after thought and "hmmmm's" that may work against the goal.  But there are all kinds of folks who like all kinds of things and who do all kinds of marketing - whatever works for them I guess right?!
