It's here! RealtyTrac released its list of the top ski areas for real estate investment, and there were some interesting factors involved in their ranking - the old standbys like median home prices and gross rent yield, and less common factors like airport proximity and 'Pure Awesomeness'!

As expected, towns in Utah, Washington, Montana, Oregon, California, Idaho and Colorado topped the list. Sadly, I haven't ventured that far west yet - are they as awesome as RealtyTrac says?

Suzanne, if you're a skiier, you definitely should head out west. I've been fortunate enough to ski Sun Valley, Aspen, Vail, Telluride (didn't make the list), many in Utah and California. With our extreme drought, though, this is not the year to try California!

Suzanne, what an interesting list and I was very surprised to see such a low price for South Lake Tahoe. Great news for investors on that one!

I was very disappointed that our couple of Indiana ski areas with their average massive verticle drops of 250 feet didn't make the list!!! :(
