IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO FOLLOW UP ON YOUR LEADS, THEN REAL ESTATE MIGHT NOT BE RIGHT FOR YOU. IGNORING ONLINE LEADS IS CRITICAL, AND FOLLOWING UP IS CRITICAL. 

THE AGENTS WHO TAKE THE TIME TO RESPOND TO AN E-MAIL QUERY ARE THE ONES WHOSE NAMES MOST LIKELY GET PASSED AROUND. 

Many of those PHONE CALLS won't directly translate to a large payoff, but cumulatively they garner an Agent a deep well of goodwill that will inevitably generate a return for investment over the course of their career. Thus, when People are seeking an Agent, they almost always ask their Friends and Family for referrals. The Agents who take the time to respond to an E-Mail query are the ones whose names DO get passed around. Following up with your Leads WILL make a difference more often than it WOULN'T, even if it takes time to get there. Now, on the otherside of the Coin, the payoff from a follow-up call is the opportunity it gives Agents to demonstrate that. Unlike third-party aggregate sites, they are the reliable source for up-to-date information on their Properties. A lot of info. is outdated on third-party sites. Even though a Consumer sent you an E-Mail about a Home that has already gone under Contract, it is well worth the Agent's time to respond with a list of other Homes that fit in for what they are looking for. Gaining these Clients in Real Estate has always been a game of Numbers always will be, that hasn't changed. The only difference is what your playing field looks like. A five minute phone call or an immediate response via E-Mail can make it or break it. It allows you to show your knowlege of what is on the market right now, and it gives you the chance to demonstrate that you truly are a Responsive Professional who really does CARE about your Client/s, and that you deserve to have them as your Client/s.

Lead follow up is so critical in online marketing. If agents are not following up and are wondering why they are not productive, they might not be cut out for the business. Great Post!

Tamra, It is hard to believe an agent does not respond to phone calls or e-mails. Agreed, not all will turn into a transaction but if you ignore them your right, they should find a different line of work.

Hello Bob. Yes, it is hard to believe that some Agents don't respond timely, but I have seen it happen, and then I've seen other Agents take up that particular Client Lead because the "other one" didn't..and well..Agent #2 had a success story and a great relationship established in the end, and furthermore, and great reputation by word of mouth. Tamra - Oftentimes it is the agent who responds the fastest that gets the client. If you wait even an hour, chances are that potential client has tried calling or emailing another agent by then.
