We took 13 days to drive to and attend my husband's 50th class reunion in Akron Ohio. We drove 400 to 500 miles a day and were on the freeways as little as possible.
It was so fun for me to be able to look at the houses and the ways people live in different areas.
driving on Hwy 36 was so interesting, the road goes through a zillion small towns and some big ones. I think Urbana Ohio was one of my favorites. Beautiful 1880s to 1900s homes lining the streets,
The palatial courthouses in Indiana were so fascinating, I thought "how did they afford to build these"?
We drove through Winchester Illinois looking for a motel didn't find one but their courthouse (I assume we were one block off) was burgundy and gold!
On Hwy 40 in Colorado the scenery is so beautiful. I enjoyed the resort architecture too. They have taken the look of the old mines, added some lodge/alpine looks and made visually interesting condos etc.
We stay in older motels usually. The Country Motel in Hot Sulphur Springs was an example of how staging works. The exterior was nicely painted plantings were nice etc. but what set it off was the use of nice metal lawn furniture in front of the units - very inviting.
I am writing this on Saturday in my office catching up, I had the able help of my partner Jake Beck while I was gone.
Batteries are recharged- I did enjoy seeing small town America.
Hope you all are having some good times this summer too!
