ASK AN AMBASSADOR: Reasonable Expectations Of Blogging
This is a great post by Bill and Liz Spear, so pay attention.
It is important that your blogging reach your intended buyers and sellers. You can't do that if you are not a RAIN MAKER... Secondly, it is important you write about your target subdivisions and communities. Be the expert in the area to get the phone calls. Yes... and repeat repeatedly what you a hawking... the name of the subdivision and your name or what ever that may be to get your Google ranking up.
Thank you Bill and Liz!
ASK AN AMBASSADOR: Reasonable Expectations Of Blogging
"I wrote my first blog post today, so when does the phone start ringing??"
Answer: ANY minute now!!!
Okay, I WISH it were that easy, but it's PROBABLY not going to work that way! Why? Because some things have to fall into place to make that phone ring!
FIRST, you need to be a Rainmaker and not a Rainer so the public can find your blog post. If you're not a paid Rainmaker, your posts are ONLY going to other members of ActiveRain, so that means 99.99% of the people reading your post are other real estate professionals and NOT your local home buyers and sellers. You NEED that paid Rainmaker subscription to get your posts launched on the Internet seas. It's WELL worth the investment if you're willing to do the work to make blogging work for you.
SECOND, Was your content what the public might be looking for? And more specifically, something LOCAL to your market? Because what we've found to be the key to getting home buyers and sellers to respond is giving them information they can't find elsewhere. Duplicating what Yahoo, MSN, Zillow, Trulia, etc. provide is an uphill battle. The big boys are going to win that Google placement on "generic" real estate stuff. Niches, specialized searches, the personal, THAT is where you can stand out. And it's okay to get personal (in our opinion). We just might reach someone who is also into cat rescue, gardening, a member of our church, etc. That personal bond matters.
THIRD, along the same lines of #2, did you write in a way that both Google AND the consumers will like you? Keyword stuffing your post can sound really awkward when you're BUYING OR SELLING A HOME IN MASON OHIO? PLEASE CALL MASON OHIO REAL ESTATE AGENTS HELPING HOME BUYERS AND SELLERS SELL THEIR MASON HOME!! And along the same lines, aesthetics matter too! No ALL CAPS, no wall of words, and yes, we may break a few eighth grade English rules to get some extra white space in our post to make it easier to read.
FOURTH, one post isn't likely to get the job done. You're going to need to steadily build your online presence. More relevant blog posts means a better chance of placing in the search engine results and getting attention.
FIFTH, are you in a high population area or low population? Tech savvy consumers? How many agents ALSO blog? The more competition, the tougher it is to catch those eyes.
The reality is blogging is a long term strategy. If you need five new listings by the end of July, blogging probably isn't the way to get there. However, if you're looking to significantly increase your business in the next year or longer, blogging CAN be that tool to make it happen! Steadily build your presence and you can be found!
But to make it happen, you're going to need to stay focused. Don't be distracted by writing posts just to attract comments or maybe even a Featured post. Your eye and keyboard needs to stay on the prize, making your phone ring. Once it rings, blogging has done it's job, the rest is on YOU!
