Spotlight on the Garment District Manhattan

The Garment District, also sometimes called the Fashion District, is a neighborhood located within Midtown Manhattan. The area is less than one square mile, and extends from 34th to 42nd Street, between Fifth and Ninth Avenue.

Being one of the fashion capitals of the world, New York City is home to a plethora of famous designers, such as Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, and Donna Karan, all of whom have offices, showrooms, and production facilities in the Garment District. The neighborhood also has many fabric suppliers and warehouses. In fact, the whole process, from design to production to wholesale, all happens within the bounds of the Garment District. No other city in the world has such a concentration of fashion in one single area.

The Garment District sits in the heart of Midtown, making it easily accessible by public transportation. Notable landmarks in the area include the Fashion Walk of Fame --the only permanent landmark dedicated to American fashion –and the beautiful Bryant Park. Though the area is known as an epicenter of fashion and business, a demand for affordable living space, especially for those who work in the area, has resulted in a new surge in residential units. New, modern lofts are the go-to housing choice for this area.
