How to select the Right Realtor in representing you in purchasing process or selling your property!
This is a task many first time, as well as repeat buyers face. Equally important is for first time sellers as well as repeat sellers to make sure they chose the right Realtor in the sale of their property. How do you achieve this task? Let me give you my suggestion as well as explanation how to do that.
In my opinion MLB Managers & Realtors have one major or should I say key skill in common. This commonality is that they both have one job and that is to get results, period! How do they accomplish the Goal? Clearly through Leadership!
We look at MLB Managers and we look at their leadership style and determine if they are successful or not. My interpretation is there are many Leadership Characteristics. Some experts narrow them down to five or six different traits. The bottom line is the best Leaders do not use one style of leadership. They use all the different ones that are needed to get the Results! Their Goal is to win the World Championship. The Realtor’s Goal is to sell the property for the most amount of money in the shortest period of time! Or help the buyer to acquire the property for the least amount of money!
Managers need to be a friend of the players, just as Realtors need to become the client’s friend. MLB Managers need to be democratic leaders when it helps to achieve the goal and they become democratic. If need be they can become dictatorial and lay the law down. Keeping with my example of MLB Managers and their Leadership style, I find the ones that are successful maintain and earn the respect of their players. Just as Realtors who earn the respect of their clients are successful.
Keep in mind, it is not an easy task to achieve. There are many Prima Dona players, Pitchers, Catchers designated Hitters and the list goes on and on. The bottom line is, they all serve a purpose and it is a team effort to win the Championship. Clearly it takes a leader to keep them in check. Realtors deal with similar issues, some clients are needier than others. Some have stronger egos and are used to being catered to than others. It takes Leadership to manage their expectations. Not only Managers but Realtors need the support of Management, without that the “self-important players” cannot be kept in check. Just as Realtors need the support of their Management when it comes to challenging clients or other agents.
That means there needs to be Leadership from the top down as well, Ownership, Front Office key players and Managers need to be on the same page. The manager needs to be smart and be like a great Chess Player. Then results will come.
Every time I see MLB, I also see parallels to the Military as well as Real Estate. (Please allow me to digress) In the Military the Brigade Commanders needed to support the Battalion Commanders and they in turn needed to support the Company Commanders. When this is happening, then the Military is able to achieve their objective in peace as well as in military conflict, because there is trust in the Leaders and one tries to achieve above and beyond expectation to please the leaders.
In Real Estate the Owners need to support their Branch Managers, they in turn need to support their sales force. In Real Estate it is similar, when Managers support, protect and take care of their sale force the results are stellar.
So in closing successful Realtors are generally great Leaders too. So if you are interviewing a potential Realtor to represent you buying or selling a property, please look for their Leadership skills not the “fluff” that will assure you that you picked the right Realtor to represent you.
