Truman Baker chevrolet Searcy AR car dealer

This is a great old photo of Truman Baker, who owned the Chevrolet dealership in Searcy AR for many years.  He was also Highway Commissioner for years, a very important appointed position.  So look at the contrast in the dress of these two men.  Mr. Baker in a spiffy suit and fancy shoes and the man on the right with his overalls.  The sign says "The oldest Chevrolet truck in White County  1926."  Is Truman handing the keys to the gentleman?  Was there a contest?  And what was this year?

The picture is owned by Sherry and Leon Person, who have a vast collection of old photos of Searcy AR.  They both grew up in Searcy and Sherry is the daughter of Col. Ivan Quattlebaum who collected the photographs.  They are asking if anyone can identify the man in overalls.  We are asking the Searcy Sleuths if they know who he was.  Let us know if you know!!

Good Saturday morning Barbara. It's need to look back on some of those old photos and reminisce.

This will help Anita and maybe she won't need to get out her magnifying glass.

I don't recognize the gent but there is something familiar about him.

I'm guessing the gent is handing over the keys to the old truck as a trade in for a new one.  Hmmm, did that 1926 Chevy truck even have a key?

Barbara S. Duncan I love these old photos that hearken back to simpler times. UMM...the farmer in the overalls? Roger D. Mucci 's distant uncle, Ol' Weird Harold?

Great photo! Looks like it says "1926 1/2 TON" at the bottom of the sign.

Don, thanks for that enlargement.  Hopefully, someone will know him.

Sandy and Norm, were you joking or is there really someone named Roger Mucci who had a weird uncle?

former Searcian,  I couldn't read the 1/2 ton so thanks for pointing it out.

Sandy and Norm, the guy does resemble Roger D.  as I have just seen him tipping his wine glass on my blog.  Does he still have the old truck?

Barbara S. Duncan Careful! Roger D. Mucci has been incognito for decades and is trying to put those days on the 'farm' behind him. He traded the ol' truck for a El Camino years ago!

The man has been identified by the Searcy Sleuths who are also active facebook viewers.  He was Johnny Smalley......so says several readers.  I am sorry, Sandy and Norm Padula, that Mr. Mucci does not get this honor of being in a picture with Mr. Baker.  Mr. Mucci, I do appreciate your appearing on my blog!!
