Hello everyone-I know we have a lot of dog lovers here on Active Rain and Deanna shared an important message that any dog owner should know.  Thank you Deanna for getting the word out

Original content by DEANNA C. SMITH CERTIFIED MOBILE NOTARY NMLS #268590

I am not a veterinarian or an authority on dog health but I saw a troubling story on the local news and feel dog lovers and owners need to know this.   I did not know this and would have been heart broken if this had happened to my pet and companion.   After all, when you have a pet for years and years; they become a part of you and an unnatural death will rip your heart out.

According to the news story, there is an ingredient in sugar free gum, peanut butter and some other products that is deemed safe for humans but is deadly to dogs.   The news report was telling the story of a two year old, "puppy" basically, who ate some sugarless gum containing this ingredient.

The ingredient is called "Xylitol".   I did a Google search and found the story online so I am posting the link here for all you dog owners and lovers:

I hope this information is helpful to everyone because like me, I am sure there are a lot of dog owners out there that did not know about this.   An informed public is important because it is the basis of our actions.

Though this blog is not about residential mortgages directly, it runs along a similar vein.   You need to be informed and being informed can make a difference in your life decisions.   I inform my clients about home mortgages, construction loans and lot loans to help them make the right decisions.

I am a dog lover but I also love my clients.   I give my clients information so they can make informed mortgage decisions here in the state of Virginia.   If you live in a big city like Richmond or Hampton Roads or a smaller town like Blacksburg or here in Hardy, Virginia;  I am here for you, fellow Virginians.

Please contact me if you want to be informed BEFORE  doing your mortgage. Like all the dog owners, I want you to know the dangers that face you ahead of time so we can avoid them and we can move forward smoothly in your purchase or refinance.   After reading this, go give your canine some lovin' !

I read it also. We don't chew gum, we buy everything organic, nothing from China, so we are a bit overprotective with our poodles.

That is an ingredient that is toxic to animals for sure.  So many things we think are harmless can be bad for our animals.

This is great information to share and pass along, Sharon. I didn't know this, but I wouldn't have given anything to Lucky with that in it, but there are people that do share their food with their dogs. I just don't give him human food.

I once had a dog eat an entire large pan of freshly made brownies. As soon as I found out I called the vet. I guess that kind of chocolate isn't bad for dogs. The vet told me not to worry. Nothing happened. Chaco lived many more years after the brownie eating incident.

What's funny is that he hide the glass pan under a recliner after he finished the brownies. I still don't know how he managed to get the pan off the stove, onto the hard kitchen floor and then into the living room without breaking it.

Debbie Laity -That is pretty clever of that brownie stealing pooch. My Mom's dog Heidi ate a whole box of Godiva chocolates a couple yrs ago with no side effects. That stuff is $50 a box.

Now that's an expensive lesson to learn, Sharon. You know...put up the chocolate from the dog.

Debbie Laity -It was on a table but the table was next to the recliner and that's how she got them. Thankfully I didn't buy them. I wouldn't pay that much for a box of candy.
