Is it a Lime Tree? Is it an Orange Tree? A mystery fruit as far as we are concerned...

www.endrebarath.com

A some of you know, we have five citrus fruit trees in our back yard, the Lemons we recognized, just as we recognized the Tangerines, then there were two others that were Orange Trees (we were about 80% confident) then there was the mystery tree. We first thought it was limes, we gave them away to friends as limes... they were dark green and sweet... then they started growing to much larger size remained dark green and the fruit was dry. Well long and behold as of about two weeks ago they turned into good size oranges of sorts. We have been enjoying them and giving them away. We still call it the Mystery Fruit, either way they are good you tell me what they are?:))

Endre,  The sure look like oranges.  I've have to eat one to provide a better guess of your mystery fruit.

Hi Endre - Whatever they are, I'm jealous that you can grow them in your back yard. About the best we can do in our climate are some plums and apples, but citrus just won't grow here.

Endre - there are so many varieties, and even if someone kows them, it is not easy to do based on the photo (Actually, two identical photos :)

But they look lovely and, probably, are tasty

Praful Thakkar  they look like Oranges but for a long time it was hard to tell based on the dark green outer skin... it remained like Limes and then they started to grow but continued to remain dark green....

If they are small I'd say they are Calamondin or Calamonsi which are delicious little lemony citrus fruits.  Perfect for garnishes or cocktails.  But these look larger so I don't know what they are.

I think it's interesting that they taste good and sweet in the green phase. That should be a good clue as to what they are. I don't have any idea.

What is really weird, no one seems to collect the fruits. You can see the trees like this everywhere in here.

While this was sure a joke, in 10 years I would not be surprised if the technology would be there for us. So, fine with photos now, but a piece to try in 10 years, please...
