No Adversity is Why Some People Don't Like Hawaii

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

When I got off the plane and met my limo driver, he seemed taken aback that I was here in Hawaii by myself. My husband doesn't much care for Hawaii, I told him. I guess he's not used to meeting passengers in baggage claim on Big Island who talk about people who don't like to visit Hawaii.

Why not, he asked incredulously. To him, that type of attitude is most likely inconceivable. Well, probably because my husband likes adversity. It's what he's used to and he doesn't like situations that are different.

Then, I added: He grew up in Chicago.

Well, that explained everything to the guy. Made perfect sense, he said. But I know it didn't make any sense whatsoever to him. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Mauna Loa and the Limo Driver on the Big Island.

Like your husband, I don't like HI either. May be a place to unwind. Mosquitos, tourists, cockroaches etc. Cheap looking homes over priced....

Prefer some remote island....My opinion.

Perhaps you would like Lanai? I heard the Four Seasons just reopened; they were in the midst of remodeling when I was there a year ago. I love that island, about as remote as they come.

If you look, you can find adversity in Hawaii - when I lived in Honolulu back in the day, it drove me crazy to have to stroll leisurely down city streets at lunchtime -- I wanted to walk!

I enjoyed a very brisk walk in Honolulu the last night I was there last year about mid December. I met a very interesting guy who asked all sorts of questions about the game I was playing on my cellphone, Ingress. Maybe it's changed?

Funny that anyone would rely on a developer building homes as a sign that Mauna Loa will never errupt.  You are right on when you said that once they take your money, they don't care if you are in a lava flow risk area.

People believe the oddest things, it's like they would lose their faith in humanity if they looked at the world the way it really is.

Elizabeth: Interesting how we get so used to living with stress. Every place, I've found, has a different level. In Hawaii, thank heavens, you can switch that stress button off as long as you are the type of personality who can dial back a little. Sounds like your hubby has a harder time at it. Me? Can't wait to get over there and show you some of my favorite places. After a couple of hours at "Huggo's on the Rocks" with local live music on the beach, we will be both "amped" and relaxed at the same time.

No stress. That's the way I like it. And even a little bit of stress gets dissipated by being in Hawaii.

Hi Elizabeth.  It would take me the first five days of a vacation to destress.  Much better now.
