Oceanport is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The borough has a total area of 3.798 square miles, with most of that being land. It is surround by other Monmouth County boroughs such as Little Silver, Long Branch, Eatontown, and West Long Branch. It shares a water border to the northeast with Monmouth Beach, and juts in the Shrewsbury River.
Oceanport is primarily a residential area with a tight-knit community. Many organizations comprised of volunteer citizens happily work to make their town beautiful. The borough has various recreational sports programs, and an active senior group. In 2008, New Jersey Monthly ranked Oceanport 4th in its article “Best Places to Live in New Jersey,” and continues to provide its residents with a small-town atmosphere in a beautiful, water-adjacent setting.
Students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade in public school attend Oceanport Wolf Hill Elementary School and Maple Place Middle School, which also serves students from the neighboring borough of Sea Bright. For high school, public school students attend Shore Regional High School made up of students from Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, and West Long Branch, in addition to Oceanport.
New Jersey Transit has a nearby limited-service stop at Monmouth Park from May through October, for easy transit to the Monmouth Park Racetrack, a thoroughbred horse racing track. The track is home to the annual Haskell Invitational Handicap, an event second only to the Triple Crown. Other points of interest include Fort Monmouth and Sands Point –an area of extravagant homes, featured in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
