Okay, I am a Trekkie. While not huge a fan of Captain James T Kirk, I thoroughly liked many of the other characters such as Spock, Sulu and Scottie. What I do find fascinating is that what was Science Fiction years ago, becomes today’s or even yesterday’s reality. For example the flip phone. I am sure that some brainiac Tekkie was watching Kirk and Company use the communicator and some years later, the flip phone came into existence. While I did not say, “Beam me up, Scottie.” I did think it.
That being said, most Trekkies know, the popular phrase 'Beam me up Scotty' was never actually spoken in any of The Original Series. Kinda like Holmes never actually said, “Elementary, my dear Watson” and Joe Friday from Dragnet never said “Just the facts, ma’am.” For some strange reason, our ears hear and our minds interpolate. Hence, we hear, we think and we repeat what we think we hear. It is important to pay attention and listen deeply to what folks say. Even in sci-fi.
