My Journey to the World Wide Web and the Internet
I am posting this article in the hope of inspring others to step out of their comfort zone.. and be all they can be... You need to take risks to really know what you can accomplish... after all.. what's the worst that can happen?
I remember about 7 or 8 years ago my Broker saying to me “Gloria, you really should have a website and start a Facebook page and get out there on the internet.” I clearly remember my response to him saying “I’m 64 years old… I don’t have time for that.. I’m a single grandmother.. raising three grandchildren…I can’t do that.. and I don’t have time to do all that suff!”
His response to me was: “Gloria, you can’t afford not to!” He was right.. as always… a big thank you to my Broker of Record, Nelson Goulart who pushed me to do the things he knew I could do.. and had to do to stay relevant.
And so, began my journey … I created my website, attended classes and learned about SEO and how to make my website shine and provide great content for the consumer. I worked diligently and, after a few months I appeared on the first page of Google.
I then moved on to Facebook where I created a personal page and a business page, where I now have more than 10,000 followers or “Likes” on my page. I engage with my “fans” on a daily basis and share content they wish to see.. beautiful kitchens.. and spa-like bathrooms, spectacular foyers with grand staircases and beautiful victorian homes with wrap-a-round porches… We all live vicariously through these beautiful photos and dream of owning them.
In November, 2011 (I was 67 at the time) my Broker told me Michael Krisa, from“thatinterviewguy.com”, the guru of real estate video was coming in to the office and wanted to interview a few agents and he recommended I come in… I tried to refuse, saying “I can’t be in front of a camera, I don’t know what to say.. I don’t know what questions will be asked of me. I’m going to be nervous and fumbling all over the place.” But my Broker insisted telling me to get myself in to the office or he would come and pick me up. He didn’t want me to miss this opportunity, and here is the result.
MY INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL KRISA
CHICAGO AGENT MAGAZINE
In May, 2013, Chicago Magazine picked up the interview thanks to Michael’s efforts, and wrote an article about me as well… You can find it below:

REAL ESTATE MAGAZINE (REM)
In July, 2014 I was honoured to be featured on the cover of Real Estate Magazine, a national Canadian publication that is distributed to thousands of Real Estate Brokerages across Canada. I was interviewed about my presence on the internet, and my knowledge of social media…and how I do it considering my age, and the fact I was a single grandmother raising three grandchildren.
REM also included the interview with Michael Krisa in their online publication.

As I said in the REM article.. its all about “mindset” and has nothing to do with age.. You have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone, like I did way back in 1987. I was a single parent, who left a secure job with a steady stream of income and all my friends told me I was “crazy” for going into a commission based profession.. My thought was ” what’s the worst thing that can happen? If I don’t succeed I can always go back to secretarial work. If I don’t try I will never know what I can accomplish.”
If you’re not willing to take the risk… to reach your full potential…you will never know what you can accomplish! Be a risk taker… go after your dreams! What’s the worst thing that can happen?
If I can do it.. then anyone can!
