Yesterday after lunch, we drove to Rusack winery. According to our GPS, it was located 5.6 miles from Sides restaurant in Los Olivos. We drove and made the turn on to Ballard Canyon Road. This was one of the most beautiful drives we have taken in California.
Our first stop was to take a picture of a bison family. I had to scrunch mysel around the barbed wire fence, and baby decided to lay down. I could hear him/her making gurgling sounds of what I interpreted as contentment.
The drive was breathtaking, and at last we arrived at Rusack winery. The place was packed with wine lovers. The winery has a large deck overlooking the surrounding hills and vineyards.
We tasted great wines, and our favorites were the reds. The Santa Catalina Pinot Noir is outstanding. The Rusack family planted French Clones of Pinot and Chardonnay on the island. It was a dream of theirs, because the soil is perfect for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The wine is superb, and here are the winemaker's notes: "The result is an elegant, sensual wine with lush texture, exhibiting black cherry flavors and Burgundian aromatics of cedar, sandalwood, and rose petal." There is nothing like a dream in a bottle!
We sat on the deck enjoying the view, and then it was time to go. Here is a shot of the glorious view.
