I commented on a well written post today submitted by a new ActiveRain member, Sarah Sanusi, and the title of the post is “Don’t Be So Quick To Pick.” I thought I’d share some thoughts I had after reading this post. I initially thought about my “carved in stone” work habits and methods of marketing.
Not many real estate agents are more “old school” than I. I also need to footnote this with the fact that the “old dog” is usually more than capable of adapting to new methods of marketing and learning the “art of using technology.” We may not be a well-versed, but we can find our way to the delete button.
Having said all of that, now I also need to admit that I am very thankful that I no longer need to compete for listings. I mentor; provide marketing and feel energized every day by watching the young listing agents tear a path through the marketplace.
Everything they do is “state of the art” regarding technology. Young agents are those with less than 5 years of experience, but my 38 years of listing resales and new construction provides a very deep well of knowledge for them with a variety of techniques to close listings. The psychology of listing resales and closing builders is valuable to every young listing agent.
Complement that knowledge with the young agent’s “innate ability” to use technology to “wow” the potential client, and that’s a future commission ready to land in a bank account. If seasoned agents were more willing to share knowledge and mentor young agents, everyone would be more successful. The young agents for whom I market provide me with many quick tips and better methods of using a variety of sites.
New and young blood in a real estate office is a boost of adrenaline. It’s an energy that is contagious, and every real estate office should strive to secure its “fair share.” Rather than seasoned agents building a wall of separation, they would all be wise to work in conjunction with younger agents. It results in good business!!
