Peacocks are gorgeous creatures. Did you know that it is the males that have the bright plumage we traditionally associate with peacocks? That is to entice the lady peacocks to mate with them. Quite a bit different than us human creatures, right? This Saturday, the 2016 Pavo Peacock Festival spreads its wings to show off its beauty at the Pavo Peacock Center. 2016 Pavo Peacock Festival

The Pavo Civic Club has been hosting a peacock festival every second Saturday in May for the last 29 years. The 2016 Pavo Peacock Festival will include all the treasured traditions, such as a parade,arts and crafts, sack races and a special Peacock Quilt donated by the Peacock Quilters. The day will start off at 8:30am with a one mile run/walk for kids (ages 12 and under). The run/walk is meant to be something fun for the kids to enjoy around the center's grounds.

The 2016 Pavo Pacock Festival officially starts at 9:00am. Visit the many arts and crafts booths filled with wonderful items for sale by local artists and craftsmen. Some of the family-friendly activities scheduled for the day include sack races, a pie eating contest and some peacock calling among other things. Booths will also be set up around the Peacock Center selling delicious food. Don't miss the Peacock Day Parade at 11am. Charlie the Peacock will be strutting his stuff as the star of the parade.

Miss Ruby Lee Johnson began donating a Peacock Quilt to the Peacock Festival many years ago, which started an annual tradition. Her fellow knitting enthusiasts in the Peacock Quilters continue this tradition by creating a special Peacock Quilt every year that is donated to the festival and raffled off. The 2016 Pavo Peacock Festival is no exception. Tickets are just $1 each. You can pick them up on the day of the festival itself.
