Call me...

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

What's with this new trend?

I keep getting text messages, with the very simple message: "Call me".

I'm getting them from fellow agents, from sellers, from buyers... it's just a short message.

Aside from seeming a touch "bossy"...it seems somewhat inefficient.

In order to send me that text... they have to access my phone number in their phone... why, instead, don't they just click on the green button, and call me first?

If I don't answer... they could leave me a "voicemail" saying "Call me"... that seems a little less curt, don't you think?

Why, I ask you, why?

Alan,

I use speech to text and find it very efficient in both sending and receiving. That message is curt, but to the point. Sometimes my phone rings and rings while I'm unavailable, but a quick text gets a quick response.  I didn't like texting at first, but it's grown on me.

If you want to discuss further, call me!

LOL.... you know it didn't occur to me, that some folks might be using the "hey siri" texting from their car.   But if that's the case, it wouldn't take much more to say "Hey Siri, (or Cortana) text Alan: I'm running 15 minutes late"...  right?

I view it more as "I don't want to bother you if you are busy, so call me when you get a chance." But, I prefer text over phone calls. Sometimes of course, a phone call cannot be avoided because there is just  too much to say. But, if not... texting is my preference. I wouldn't send that text though. I can see it sounding rude.

I love text... but "call me" sounds a bit like an edict.   I'd prefer "can you call me regarding Erica's transaction, when you're available?"

I know that's more work... but seems a little nicer, dontcha think?

Alan,

I hear you.  In order to set a meeting date with a group around here, it took 15 emails back and forth.  We could have accomplished this in one phone call in 10 minutes, maximum...A

If I left my daughter a voicemail I might as well go outside and tell a tree to have her call me.  If I text her she calls.

I tend to send the type of message the person asks for.  I'm (going through mind thinking of why I can't use a varity of words that would work) pretty adaptable to the needs/requests of others.  So if I want to talk to you I will indeed call you and ask you very nicely to call me back if I get your voice mail.  I'll even use please.

I still remember the first time my brother sent me that message and I had an instant question mark bubble over my head.

I have the same pit in my stomach when someone leaves me the same voicemail.... "call me".  Although, at least with a voicemail, I can hear the tone-of-voice.

Seems to be happening more and more frequently, Alan May ... for more and more situations.  I think it depends on the "messager" ... and the ultimate reason for messaging.  Sometimes a text message will do like this ... other times, the situation screams out for a CALL!
