We are lucky to have house sitters who at a moment's notice can take care of our home and cats so we could get away to Calistoga for the weekend. Almost every year I try to get away for the 4th of July because business is practically dead in Sacramento over that weekend. For this listing agent anyway, sellers are not calling to list their homes, however, I have received a few offers that I've easily handled for my lisings. I don't have to be in town to manage listings.
On the way to Calistoga, a seller from a questionable neighborhood in Rancho Cordova called. I love the connection in my new Mercedes, very clear, crisp and easy to answer the phone while driving. He lives in a neighborhood a previous seller referred to as Little Iraq. When I asked why he wanted to move, he said they needed a bigger house and didn't seem to care where, which sounded dubious. Then, almost the next set of words out of his mouth were about commission, and he sounded very disappointed when he heard my standard real estate commission, at which point it seemed the best course of action was just to pass him along to a discount agent and be done with that call.
My husband looked at me like why did you answer your phone? Hey, there is a silver lining. I escaped what sounded like a bad situation. He was obviously not a client for Elizabeth Weintraub. I try to help everybody but have learned over the years to employ a selective process. You can read more about what else happened and see all the photographs in my personal blog today at this link: Sacramento Getaway in Calistoga.
