If you are going to make me wait, can I at least be comfortable

I am sitting here waiting for an oil change.  I haven't had an oil change since I was on vacation last year. I go 10,000 miles between with the new synthetic oil that is used in my car.  Sometimes I get get Donald to do this for me, because he's the best husband on the planet.

I am sitting here with my iPad in the dreadfully uncomfortable chair and there is a glare on the television from the huge 20 foot plate glass windows and a soap opera is on so watching television isn't a good option. They have tables, but the height of the table isn't conducive to a laptop or well anything actually. I need to both head to my parents house and check on things and feed the cat and water the garden and go back to my office.

I actually don't make clients wait at my office unless they they have an appointment and come for their appointment a little early when an agent isn't ready yet.  Rare, but does happen occasionally. But my lobby is "living room" style with a very comfortable sofa and two chairs.  I actually go in there from time to time during my day and sit to relax and unwind for a few minutes before getting back to work.

If you're going to make people wait, can't you at least make them comfortable while they wait?

Tammy, I just can not stand dealerships, doctor offices, places for oil change etc for that reason. Even when I have my iPad with me, it's a good feeling to sit in comfort. Making waiting area comfortage sends out a signal that says "we care about you and your comfort". Kudos to you for making your reception area a comfy one.

As they say, Tammy... "well, duh!" And yet, why is it often so hard to find an inviting reception area in many businesses? I suppose the people who work in those businesses have never hung out in their own reception area for a few hours.

Tammy, That dog sure looks comfortable.  I am not a fan of waiting even if I am comfortable which is never the case when I am getting my oil changed.  I bet the waiting area in your office just screams ... make yourself at home!

I don't like waiting for cars, doctors, dentists, etc., and even worse when it's uncomfortable and noisy. I always have my iPad and phone so I can at least get things done.  Some places seem to realize that customer service includes a pleasant place to sit. Others seem to encourage grumpiness

Most of the dealerships have decent waiting areas.  The independent oil change places, not so much.

Being professional goes a long way. No one likes getting their oil changed--a few comfy chairs and tinted windows could do wonders for securing return customers and referrals.

Those oil change places are the worst for comfort.  Not sure why they can't spend a few dollars to make it a pleasant experience.

Tammy, Our BMW dealership isn't bad, but it's not ideal for me to sit there and wait from a work standpoint.  The best I saw when we were car shopping was the Lexus dealership.  They had all the amenities and then some.  My oil place wanted me to come back on the same frequency even though I put in synthetic oil.  And the price was WAY higher, so that didn't make a lot of sense to me.  It is about time for me to go and get that done again though.

Good morning Tammy. I agree with you. I do not like to take my car for an oil change for that reason.

I'm with you on this too - just as underwriters need to move every couple of years, businesses need to try out their own waiting rooms occasionally!  I believe the furniture would be changed in many waiting rooms!

At the end of the day, more appreciation for Don Baker, especially next time when he gets to go play with the oil change.
