Know When To Say No

Success depends on getting good at saying no without feeling

guilty. You cannot get ahead with your own goals if always

yes to someone else’s projects. You can only get ahead

with your desired lifestyle if you are focused on the

things that will produce that lifestyle.”

Jack Canfield, Author and Success Coach

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Know when to say no

There are many demands made on your time . . . . and you are continuously being pulled in many directions.  Some of the things that you’re being asked to do will help you in your career. There are other things that are just the right thing to do. While other things that you’re asked to do . . . . will become distracters on your success journey . . . . and will not contribute to your success.

You have to know what to say yes . . . . and when you have to say no.

When you’re asked to accept a task you have to ask yourself the following questions. Is it the best use of my time and resources  . . . . to undertake the task now? What is the positive impact on my life my career to take on the task . . . . and will it bring me closer to achieving my goals? When the answer to the questions are yes . . . . then taking action will have positive an impact on your career . . .  and on achieving your goals?

When the answer is yes . . . . It becomes a proactive activity that will assist you to continue to move closer to greater success . . . . In fulfilling your dreams  . . . . And achieving your goals then you should strongly consider to doing the activity.

When the answer to the question is a no . . . . Because . . . . you can see yourself being distracted from your purpose . . . . You can also see yourself being moved further away from your goals . . . . as a result of the activity then answer to the activity is no.

Know when to say no . . . . is in itself an activity. It becomes an activity of controlling your life’s direction through your decisions . . . . Also maximizing your activities . . . . to have a positive impact on your life . . . . and career in achieving your goals.

Hi Lou

This post really resonates with me, on so many levels. I often find it hard to say no, and don't when I really should.Or get distgracted becuase I am not saying no. I have a reminder about just saying NO taped to my laptop. It helps!

Hi Lou Ludwig - WOW! I am struggling with this right now. I call this stealing my time. Right before I read your post I had a discussion with my husband about this subject. He told me to put myself first.  Concise, to the point and so fitting! I am bookmarking this! THANKS Lou!

It took me a long time to realize this. I'm still a work in progress but I have learned to put myself first and most of the time not feel guilty about it.

Like Evelyn Johnston I have to say no to myself. I have to stop and realize that I simply cannot do everything I would like to do.

We all have the same number of hours in a day and we need to choose wisely how each hour is spent.  Saying no can be a challenge.  Your blog offers good advice and we must be careful to take heed.
