Is Fall A Bad Time To Sell My House?
As the days get shorter and the cool crisp air becomes more consistent potential sellers want to know if fall is a bad time to sell. If you ask agents this question most will tell you that certain seasons are more favorable to sell your home than others. So is fall one of those seasons?
In my opinion fall is still a very good time to sell your house. Statistically spring and most of summer are when the majority of sellers put their homes on the market. If the majority of homeowners list their homes for sale during that timeframe by fall most of that inventory is sold or expiring and that in turn gives sellers who list their homes in the fall less competition. There are typically less buyers looking in the fall but, the buyers who are looking are often more serious. They’re the buyers who have been looking at listings for months and they are ready to conclude their search with enough time to move in before the holidays arrive.
If you are considering selling during the fall you need to prepare your home accordingly and account for certain conditions the fall brings. As the leaves fall the yard looks less than perfect, make sure you keep it neat and clean at all times. Fall curb appeal can be absolutely gorgeous but, it takes effort to maintain. Have your HVAC serviced and change the filters, turning the heat on is just around the corner and when it’s time for your home inspection you don’t want any surprises. Turn all of the lights on for showings; selling in the fall requires you to account for the shorter and often cloudier days that come with the change of the season.
