The FAA Sending Out Emails, Weather Warnings For Real Estate Drone Operators.

By
Real Estate Agent with MOOERS REALTY ME Broker License 106759

Drones for real estate are one more tool to enhance and relay the information transfer of property listing and local community events.

The weather alerts whether you are on a Carnival Cruise site planning a school vacation boat ride vacation or shopping for anything else around the time of an approaching eye of a storm makes the Internet an easy way to quickly connect and protect.

You must have seen a few of the "weather alert" buttons tacked on to the home page, other navigation areas of the websites you surf. Hurricane Matthew weather details as it heads into Florida from the Caribbean Islands.

Got this email from the Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA in the inbox ....

DO NOT FLY NEAR HURRICANE RESPONSE EFFORTS

As a result of Hurricane Matthew, there will likely be significant recovery efforts and the FAA may issue flight restrictions in the vicinity of disaster areas. During response operations to Hurricane Matthew, authorized aircraft may be flying at very low altitudes over affected areas.

Unauthorized UAS or drone operations may prevent other aircraft from performing life-saving missions and increase the risk of mid-air collision. Anyone, including hobbyist or recreational fliers, who interferes with disaster response efforts is subject to civil penalties of up to $32,140 per violation and possible criminal prosecution.

Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) or drone operators are responsible for checking applicable flight restrictions before operating and must not interfere with any aircraft assisting in hurricane disaster response operations, regardless if there is a flight restriction in place or not.

Drone operators may obtain information about posted flight restrictions by using the FAA’s B4UFLY mobile app or by checking the FAA’s website: https://pilotweb.nas.faa.gov/PilotWeb/.

UAS or drone operators supporting disaster response operations must be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prior to operating. Operators may seek approval by following these steps:

  1. The operator must secure support from a governmental entity, and the operation must directly contribute to the response, relief, or recovery effort.
  2. After completing step 1, the operator must contact the FAA’s Systems Operations Support Center (SOSC) at 202-267-8276for assistance.
  3. After calling the SOSC, the operator must also send the request via email to 9-ator-hq-sosc@faa.gov

NAR President Tom Salomore spoke at the Maine Association of REALTORS 2016 group at Sunday River Ski tom solomore nar photoResort/ And among other things mentioned how important real estate drones are, and will become even more so in the future of our industry.

If you have a real estate drone and did not get the weather alert email, then it is not registered with the FAA.

The news media with drones for gathering late, breaking, this just in news gets the same email.

To stay away and let the emergency assistance groups, public safety folks and distaster preparedness agencies do what they are trained to do.

Blogged about before, more on registering your real estate drone

Have you had your state REALTOR's convention yet and do you go?

The continuing credits, the networking around the dinner table and in the hospitality suites and motivation speakers all help to energize and make you scurry back to the your local real estate markets. More on education options from the Maine Association Of REALTORS.

Maine has 5201 REALTORS and around 330 "Took It To The Peak", attended this year's MAR convention  at the Sunday River Ski areain Bethel Maine. Or actually, technically Newry, Maine. The next MAR State convention is in Rockport at The Samoset Resort. The pattern is to have it at the Samoset two times, then a new venue, back to the Samoset for a pair of conventions.

Good morning Andrew Mooers ,

I'm glad you received the alerts from the FAA..good information to be receiving and another reminder you need to be registered. I can see why they don't want you flying drones near the hurricane response efforts. You are the Maine Realtor to contact if thinking about purchasing in Maine!

Thanks Dorie Dillard for lowering the landing gear and touching down on our Active Rain blog post this morning. Luckily we get a little snow, not the other varieties of weather than are destructive like Hurricane Matthew, others. We use our "weather" deposits for outdoor winter recreation. Snowsledding, down hill and cross country snow skiing.

Andrew, I can't imagine anyone letting a drone out of its hangar with the likes of Matthew lurking around!

REALTORS getting the FAA notice about being grounded, stay on the ground makes you feel like a private pilot. The drone registration is the reason why Patricia Kennedy ! Videos done during a hurricane don't enhance the up up and away curb appeal. And you lose the drone when even GPS on board won't get the little 4 engine bird back to base.

I have  been drooling over drones for awhile. Is that your kitchen table with all the drone gear spread out? Sure takes up a lot of room. Plus learning curve and cost. And now - the registration, licensing. But I still want one! Oh Santa??

Nice of you to keep us aware that drone operators really are pilots and that we need to pay attention and do it right.

HI Andrew; Still eyeing those drones! Have been looking at reviews on the Phantom 4. Looks like there isn't as much of a learning curve with the newer ones. But not exactly cheap! Then again, haven't priced the cost yet of getting someone else to do drone shots/video.  Nice that you still have your first one!
