Consumer Reporting Companies that Affect your Credit Score. Part 3

See earlier posts: How to request a report: Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) states that all consumer reporting companies are required to provide you with a copy of the information in your report if you request it. You should do this every 12 months due to it being free. Also, they must give you a free copy of your information if you request it if an adverse action was taken against you based on information in your report from that company and under other "Specific Circumstances." All consumer reporting companies must provide you with a copy your information for a reasonable fee. (For 2016 the max is $12.00.) Requesting copies of your own consumer reports does not hurt your own credit scores. For companies required to provide the information in your report for free annually upon request, they must do that within 15 days of receiving your request.

Not every consumer reporting company will have information on every consumer. A specialty company that reports on insurance claims, for example will likely not have information about you if you have never filed an insurance claim. Also, some consumers with limited or/and out of date credit histories may not have enough information for reporting companies to have reports about them. You may be one of those consumers, although if you are making purchases using credit, it is very unlikely.

The list that I will be posting in the upcoming days will  mostly be free. A few of these companies on the list will also provide a consumer score if you request it. I will also provide links so you can request on-line. Know when to check a report. You also have the right to dispute any of the information in your report.

If you ever have any questions, email me and I will try to help.

Royal, great post, and knowing what is on your credit report is so important.
